This thesis is centered around the process of the interlingual subtitling of the web documentary titled "Who were the radium girls?". Beginning in the early 1920s, the documentary in question recounts the story of numerous women who found themselves at the center of one of the darkest points in American history, that would later end up radically changing the nation’s trajectory regarding both the feminist movement as well as labor rights. This documentary was chosen not only because of the historical impact of its core subject, but also based on its content itself, which allowed for numerous subtitling challenges, such as timing and editing issues, as well as translation difficulties stemming from the structure, cultural references and the use of medical and legal terminology within the text to be thoroughly analyzed. The aim of this paper is to provide a well-rounded description of the process and the methods that were used for the subtitling of this video, when intended to be viewed by a Greek target audience which is most likely not very familiar with this subject matter.

Our research effort aims at applying concepts and methods proposed by Raymond Williams regarding creativity, culture, individuals and societies, and images of society on Don Quixote de Miguel de Cervantes, highlighting the sometimes total or partial success or failure of the identification of the two distinct descriptions and perspectives. The individual aims of the study, therefore, are initially focused on the identification and understanding of the two perspectives, on their following comparison, where this is possible, and on the application of Williams’ theory to the whole work of Don Quixote in the cases where corresponding and proposed concepts on the part of Cervantes are not identified. By broadening the concept of “culture”, the Welsh theorist succeeds in including areas of reality that until then were unable to penetrate the various theoretical descriptions and definitions, offering us a comprehensive perspective, which contributed, in turn, to a more complete understanding of man and society. A brief assessment of the two distinct perspectives emphasized the invaluable contribution of art to the study of cultural issues, as well as the need to broaden the approach with which we study cultural and social issues, in general, and with which we seek ways of interpreting and understanding society.

The following dissertation is focused on the translation of a technical text, and more particularly of a medical text, which focuses on the topic of cancer in Germany. The original text is a chapter of a medical research of 2015 from Robert Koch Institut (RKI).The purpose of this research is to mention and analyze all illnesses that appear in Germany. In the chapter of cancer, all types of cancer existing in Germany are mentioned. Moreover, prognostic and predictive factors are mentioned, such as the attendance of cancer prognostic tests and early detection screenings or the maintenance of a healthy way of life. Furthermore, this chapter refers to the various prognostic tests and the number of them that are offered free of charge by the German health insurance funds. Another aspect of this research are the death and morbidity rates of all cancer types found in Germany that are presented through an extensive time analysis starting in the early 21st century and some decades before. Last but not least, some action plans are brought up, which aim at the improvement of prognostic tests in the future and raising awareness of German citizens about the risks of cancer and the importance of prognosis in everyone's life.
