Abstract
This dissertation is being prepared in order to complete my studies at the Department of Archives, Librarianship and Museology at the Ionian University of Corfu. Its title is: The role of school libraries in enhancing openness, extroversion and multiculturalism in primary and secondary education. Libraries have always been a place where everyone was able to broaden their horizons and help complete their work. However, in order to achieve this, children need to interact within the first years of learning so that they can acquire the knowledge for using it. This is exactly where the role of school libraries that are the main body of the present, lies.
Specifically, the dissertation is divided into three chapters. The first chapter talks about the beginning of libraries and how to organize and operate them. Then comes the role of school libraries and their usefulness. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) will be extensively presented in the second chapter which are helpful to children so that they can cope with the needs that arise due to the new data. Furthermore, the same chapter will also analyze the terms openness, extroversion, and multiculturalism which contribute to the expansion of their horizons. In addition, actions related to the aforementioned terms will be presented as well as suggestions regarding the school libraries which could facilitate their use by the students.
The third chapter will talk about Open Educational Resources that are materials with learning and research purpose and are freely available through the Depositories located on various platforms and blogs. In the last few pages the reader is able to be informed about all the bibliography, articles and networking used in order to substantiate the present.
