Abstract
The current thesis discusses the intellectual copyright legislation (Act 2121/1993) as implemented in the Greek Academic Libraries.
Initially, and for the purpose of a better comprehension of the topic, certain concepts and their definitions are presented.
Then, the current relative international and national bibliography is cited and analyzed. The evolution of the legislation as well as its presence and power as necessities are presented.
Also, the different kinds of rights which are granted to the creators, thus permitting them to protect their ideas and work even after their decease are discussed. It becomes clear that the organization of copyrights play a vital role in the enforcement of laws while public administration bodies contribute in the proper function of the rights, with each body focusing on a particular creator’s category.
Furthermore, the legal regulations and exemptions applying to academic libraries are presented. The Creative Commons licenses and their implementation in the Greek Academic Libraries sector are discussed. Also, examples of implementing the intellectual copyright legislation within the Greek Academic Libraries sector are included.
Finally, conclusions and issues to be further discussed are presented in the last part of the thesis.
