Abstract
The main focus of this dissertation is censorship in literature, the causes of its enforcement is examined and instances from the historical background are cited. The cases of the wield power of the church, the changes and distortions of the original literary texts and the way of managing the curriculum in the educational field, are decomposed. The final purpose of this study is to acknowledge the contribution and influence censorship had in the evolution of literature.
