Abstract
The Justice and Development Party's (AKP) multi-year rule in Turkey, which has been in power for the past 17 years, has created new social and political data, fundamentally altering the country's traditional model of governance. Given the climate of political fragmentation and deviation from the traditional models of party organization in Turkey today, we are examining the political language of Turkish parties as embodied in their party discourse. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the political rhetoric in Turkey as reflected in the political speeches of the most important parties of the Turkish National Assembly in times of major socio-political events. Despite the ideological divergence between the parties and their rivalry over who will win the most votes in the elections to secure their political future, all parties' primary focus is on protecting the state as a mechanism and as a way of governing. Thus, all parties in Turkey have as their priority the safeguarding of the country's survival and future by informally maintaining a common ideological line based on the fulfillment of their vital national interests. The theoretical framework of the work is based on Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) theory and its connection with the “ideologization” of the political rhetoric whose ultimate aim is the reproduction and perpetuation of its power.
