Abstract
This research is about the presentation of the national music school of Greece ideologically and biographically. Initially, the broader ideological approach and development of: nation, nationalism, internationalism, patriotism and chauvinism is presented. This is done through historical, conceptual and lexical sources in order to develop a conceived series of events that lead us to the need to create national music schools. Based on the above we are lead to the presentation of the reasons for the choice of nationalism and its criteria. Then music relates to nationalism, due to the fact that music is a form of human expression, it was also strongly used in this case, and many times being even an emblem of national identity. In addition, various national musical schools in Europe are presented briefly. Continuing, the National Music School of Greece is presented. At first we see the historical development of nationalism in Greece, through which we are guided to the need for national music identity. This request sought to satisfy composers, initially from the Ionian Islands, so we could say that we have an early national school, which is illustrated by examples. Through the work of these composers we arrive at the beginning of the 20th century and in the group of composers, who were eventually called "National Music School of Greece", whose biographical details, ideology and their work are presented. There are also some composers who could belong to the national school, but their works are not national as a whole. Also, the supporters and opponents of the National School are outlined. While, in conclusion, we see that the National Music School was a necessity for Greece of that time.
