Abstract
This dissertation was based on Daniel Pool’s book Dickens’ Fur Coat and Charlotte’s Unanswered Letters, which ventures in a relaxed and unaffected tone to present readers with the development of novel writing in Victorian England. Studying the book I tried to reconstruct this development and focus on the reciprocal relation between the socio - cultural advancements of the time and the way the novel emerged through them. Very briefly I presented the status of prose in Greece during the same period. In the aftermath, I translated the third chapter of the book which focuses basically on women writers trying to account for their frame of mind and their literary choices. The translation is followed by a commentary on the difficulties and particularities of the text and the methods I employed to deal with it.
