Abstract
In this thesis, three aromatic plants are studied, which are rich in bioactive ingredients: Melissa officinalis, Cymbopogon citratus and Cymbopogon flexuosus. A dried sample of the three plants is used and the time, temperature, use of aqueous or hydroalcoholic solvent, ultrasound are examined as optimization factors for the extraction of the samples. The total phenolic content of the extracts is determined with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent. Each plant sample requires a different optimization process. Temperature is the most important factor and its increase to 80oC leads to a more complete recovery of phenolic components. The optimal extraction time at this temperature is 15 min for C. citratus and C. flexuosus and 30 min for M. officinalis. Finally, the use of dilute hydroalcoholic solution (alcohol / water: 10/90 for M. officinalis and 30/70 for C. citratus and C. flexuosus) leads to an increase in the concentration of phenolic components in the extract. High concentrations of ethanol appear to act as inhibitors.
