Abstract
The subject of this thesis is the British Protection of the Ionian Islands during the 19th century. In particular, it consists of the translation from English to Greek, as well as the commentary of a 19th-century manuscript, entitled "The Ionian Islands under British Protection". The selected text is of great historical importance, whereas, at the same time, it is presenting the whole social and political context of the Ionian Islands over the period that it was written. Apart from the original text and its Greek translation that are being presented, the commentary focuses mainly on the abovementioned elements, thus it is entitled "The historical context during the period of the British rule over the Ionian Islands (1815-1864) and the confrontation between the views of the British and Ionian people".
