Abstract
The present thesis aims to demonstrate the educational value of Sophocles' tragedies for the citizens. First of all, there is an attempt in a short presentation of the birth of ancient tragedy starting from Arion. Also, a particular reference is made to the biographical data, the project, the particular characteristics and the innovations introduced by Sophocles in the ancient drama. The continuity summaries the cases of Sophocles tragedies and political thinking parts are included in those in order to demonstrate their educational character. In addition, the Aeschylus approach to the teaching side is recorded of ancient drama as a fundamental to the tutorial value of Sophocles' tragedies for the citizens. In addition, the correlations between ancient tragedy and the social, political and cultural conditions of the time are underlined. The present work is completed with a particular reference to the timeless value of the ‘’Filoktitis’’, which displays important ethical messages.
