Abstract
Archeology managed to become a science thanks to the contribution of the natural sciences and the methodologies followed in them. Thus, with the passage of time, two main currents of archeology, New Archeology and Procedural Archeology and significantly influenced the course of this science, as for example in the use of technology and in general in innovative ways. But in order to reach this point, the problem of documenting the cultural heritage had to be solved and various organizations and resolutions contributed to this. The most important example is the Charter of Venice, thanks to which proper documentation and the organization of material monuments began.
Subsequently, applied sciences have also contributed to the field of Archaeology. Since their use began, a great difference has been observed in the way research is conducted and consequently in the way archaeologists work. The research process has become simpler and more accurate, as thanks to the use of these sciences there is greater accuracy and objectivity.
Geometric mapping, creating 3D models and the rest of these methods give archaeologists the opportunity to experiment more, as it is now possible to visualize the scenarios they have created for a find and see which result is more consistent with reality and history. Also, thanks to the above digital technologies, they have managed to make the excavation process reversible, something that was unthinkable in the past. Therefore, it is understood that now with the use of the equipment of each method and with the basic knowledge in these fields, archaeologists can achieve many things without necessarily having the help of specialized people in these fields.
In the last part of the paper, reference is made to the archaeological site of Amyklaion and the use of various digital technologies that have been used so far and have significantly helped the research.
