Abstract
The present PhD thesis concerns the steps taken by the Greek state since the beginning of the 20th century in relation to "financial education", the part of education that concerns not only the theoretical training of students but also the acquisition of the necessary knowledge and supplies for the professional track and field. Emphasis is placed on shifting the content of teaching in more practical directions and on adapting education to the requirements of economic development by establishing a system of public commercial and "practical" education. All of these, apart from their theoretical framework, are seen through the operation of the First Public Commercial School for Boys in Athens. The First Public Commercial School of Athens is the subject of historical research and study, not only as a record of the education of Boys who wanted to receive commercial education, but also as a field of interaction between educational activity and the socio-economic and political situation of the country. In this context, it is possible to understand the role of the First Public School of Commerce of Athens in relation to the history of Greek education, with other schools of the same initiative, as well as with their evolution and proliferation expansion in other parts of the country. Having the above as an occasion, the necessity of establishing Commercial Schools as a helper for the economic development of the country, the aspirations of Commercial Education, the local and social identity of the students and their families as well as the relation of this identity with their performance were sought. and the completion or not of their studies in Commercial Education.
