Abstract
For decades, the management of cultural heritage monuments and archaeological sites was a purely state affair, with work carried out by a closed circle of scientists and administrative bodies. Archaeological science served both national identity purposes (national and cultural identity, cultural diplomacy) and the protection of cultural heritage treasures from human and natural disasters. Today, this work aims to highlight and explore, through literature review, the new context in which the concepts of management and promotion of cultural heritage monuments and archaeological sites acquire new meaning. This shift is driven by:The broadening of scientific theoretical frameworks (interdisciplinarity): Incorporating diverse perspectives and methodologies in the study and management of heritage. The acquisition of new cognitive and technological tools, and the rapid development of digital technology, which is now penetrating all sectors: Transforming how heritage is documented, analyzed, interpreted, and presented. The formation of new economic conditions at a global level, to which the policies implemented by states, agencies, and organizations are constantly adapting: Influencing funding, resource allocation, and decision-making processes related to heritage management. New perspectives and the formulation of additional principles deemed necessary to govern the development of human societies, such as sustainable development: Integrating environmental, social, and economic considerations into heritage management practices.
