Abstract
Museums use digital interactive exhibits to enhance traditional exhibits with additional functionality, aiming to increase visitor engagement and interest. Usability issues, however, negatively affect the interaction, while digital exhibits fail to provide the same sentimental interaction experience compaired to the originals, keeping users disengaged from the actual content. Natural user interfaces have proven to offer a solution to this by narrowing the gap between the physical and digital world, with a common approach including gesture recognition. More specialized natural interaction approaches aim to recognize anaugmented gestures, eliminating the need of using wearable equipment. In this work, an approach for developing interfaces to naturaly interact with digital exhibits is presented. The considered digital exhibits are mainly three-dimentional models which are either depicted on conventional monitors, or on holographic projections, with which users are supposed to interact by performing hand gestures.
