Abstract
This thesis critically examines the translation of Haiku poems in Greece in the form of "indirect translations". Poems of the anthology "Τσουνάμι, 29 χαϊκού από επιζήσαντες της φυσικής καταστροφής στην Ιαπωνία το 2011" translated in Greek and English will be looked into, while new, direct translations from Japanese to Greek will be proposed, presenting a variety of new strategies. The cross-linguistic comparison of these translations is important and is achieved by taking into account the relevant research around literary translation, the Japanese language and its analyses, linguistic or otherwise. The final goal of this thesis is to highlight the need for further research on literary translation from Japanese to Greek.
