Abstract
“Mountain tea” or Sideritis, is a plant-herb commonly found throughout Greece whose use (apart from decoction) is recognized as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Accordingly, the Sage, also known as Alophaskia or Salvia, is known as a perennial, bushy plant of the Eastern Mediterrenian with a recognized aromatic, medicinal, antipressant and estrogenic effect.
The above properties attracted the interest of scientists in order to obtain information about the plants in question.
In the context of this thesis, the essential oils of the species, Sideritis Raeseri and Salvia Officinalis, which had been cultivated in the region of Bryna Magnesia, were studied by means of Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrophotometry (GC-MS), in order to determine their chemical composition.
