Abstract
The present study aims to introduce elementary school students to the Pontic musical tradition through an interdisciplinary education program. In particular, the students were invited through a traditional Pontic tale to get to know elements of the Pontic tradition, such as the dialect, musical instruments, Pontic songs, information about the nutrition and the Pontic culture in general. The program is based on a qualitative research that was carried out in a primary school in Corfu with students of non-Pontian origin. The program was implemented in the third grade of Primary school. There were 20 students in the class, specifically 11 boys and 9 girls. For the needs of this music education project, nine (9) school hours were utilized leading to a music and drama performance that took place at the end of the program. The researcher's data collection tools are his personal diary that was kept after each meeting with the students, as well as an informal discussion he carried out with them one day after the performance. The conclusions of the research refer to how the students experienced their acquaintance with a musical tradition unknown to them as well as whether the teaching program acted as a trigger to find their personal cultural identity and how it affected the relationships between them.
