Abstract
The present study investigates the relationship that adolescent students develop towards group singing, through their participation in a choir or a musical theatre group. It attempts to explore how adolescents define their motivations for participation in these artistic groups, the ways they experience rehearsals, and how they understand the contribution of their participation in these ensembles in terms of social and musical skills. The first part, which constitutes of the literature review, presents the research that has been carried out on group singing, analyzing its characteristics, the relationship that teenagers develop toward singing, as well as its role in the choir and the musical theatre group. In the second part, the results obtained from the interviews conducted for the needs of the research are analyzed. Eleven teenagers, members of a choir and a musical theatre group, were invited to participate in the interviews and answered questions related to their participation and personal experiences within these artistic groups, their relationship with group singing and the way the choir and the musical theatre group function. At the end of the study, conclusions are presented regarding the research questions of understanding the impact of adolescents' participation in the aforementioned ensembles based on their own experience, their motivation and their self-referential development both socially and musically.
