Abstract
Τhe application is a Geographic Information Systems (G.I.S) based application and helps users to visualize air traffic onto an aeronautical map.
Users of the application are considered the employees of Helenic Civil Aviation Authority, who work at the control towers of uncontrolled aerodromes. Furthermore, the application provides some other useful features like retrieving METARs and NOTAMs of an aerodrome, retrieving information of an aerodrome which is published in Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP), visualizing of airways, waypoints, Terminal Manoeuvring Areas (TMAs) and Flight Infromation Region (FIR) of a country, handling and previewing of flight plans and emulated projection of those flight paths in accordance with their flight plans.
The application is a web based application and it is implemented by using a postgreSQL database through which the aeronautical data are retrieved for example aerodromes, navaids, airways, waypoints, terminal areas (TMAs), aerodromes’ information etc. The application uses a server (Geoserver) which constructs the necessary layers for visualizing the aeronautical map. In the front end part of the application the map with its features is
implemented by using openlayers library and its extension ol-ext in javascript language. A node.js server is used in order to connect the front end part of the application to the database and the web.
