Abstract
The wireless sensor networks (WSN) have for a time now been receiving an sizable amount of interest of the academic community. This can be attributed to the rapid advancement of the microchip and sensor technologies, which made possible a vide new array of real-world applications. The WSN are opening the road for applications that will help farmers increase the quality of their produce, that will help with mitigating the impact of human activities on global warming, and that will make the research in other scientific areas easier, amongst other things. However, the practical problems related to the deployment of the WSNs - synchronization problem included - are far from solved for good. This thesis aims to investigate the issue of synchronization in WSNs and the issue of clock skews. Next, some of the most widely discussed synchronization algorithms, as well as the implementation of one of them will be presented. Finally, the results of the experiments conducted will be presented, confirming the established knowledge regarding the relative clock drifts.
