Abstract
The topic of this thesis is the study of security in wireless networks with WPA2 protocol with a new attack mode called PMKID and its comparison with the older mode known as handshake. This topic was chosen since the field of security in networks is something important since nowadays it is used by everyone and also because after many years an attack was found that does not affect the user at all so it is almost impossible for the owner to know that an attack attempt has been made and most importantly it is fast and can make multiple attacks on multiple networks. The methodology used for the work was first to study the attack and set up a machine with the appropriate programs. For the experimental results, a demonstration of the attack was carried out in a laboratory environment at Ionian University to study whether it is feasible to carry out the PMKID attack with the help of aircrack & hashcat. Also, simple sample logging of Wifi router name was done with a laptop and a Wi-Fi adapter from the city of Naoussa and Thessaloniki to study whether the poles have a router that is vulnerable to the attack. Also the analysis of WEP,WPA,WPA,WPA2 and WPA3 standards is done .
