Abstract
This paper titled “Wartime interpreting, difficulties in communication in extreme situations” was written during the fourth year of studies. The aim of this paper is the study of wartime interpreting, how it differs from other interpreting types and which are the unique circumstances that interpreters are faced with. This paper will present the factors that make conflict interpreting so difficult to study, as well as the possible reasons that current training is unable to cover the needs of wartime interpreters. In addition, this paper will present the skillset and knowledge that are necessary for the peak performance of interpreters. The role of mediator that interpreters are forced to adopt, as well as personal safety will be discussed. Moreover, this paper proposes some improvements for the training of future generations of wartime interpreters.
