Abstract
This dissertation examines the process of subtitling into Greek the American documentary entitled “Game-changers: Anna Wintour”, which explores the life and influence of Anna Wintour, a key figure in the fashion industry. This paper aims to explore the complexities and requirements of audiovisual translation, particularly in adapting culturally specific and industry-related language for a Greek-speaking audience. By examining the challenges posed by the documentary’s rich dialogue, diverse narrative structures, and specialized vocabulary, this paper offers a detailed commentary on the subtitling process. The principal objective in selecting this topic was to delve into in the field of audiovisual translation, specifically subtitling, as an essential aspect of cross-cultural communication. Furthermore, Anna Wintour is a globally recognized figure, and subtitling her story for a Greek audience allows for the exploration of both language and culture in a high-profile documentary. In conclusion, this kind of assignment highlights the importance of accurate and culturally sensitive subtitling in making media accessible to broader audiences.
