Abstract
This paper aims to produce an analysis and commentary of a translation process. The original text and its translation concern second language learning and the phenomenon of multilingualism as studied through the discipline of linguistics. The presentation of the translation and the original text follows an analysis of the steps taken by the translator before beginning the translation process, and the problems that arise during the translation process. The foundation of this analysis was the functional approaches of translation and Mona Baker's theory regarding equivalence, as told in her book In Other Words (2018). More specifically, the commentary on the translation process involves the analysis of the translation instructions provided for the translation act with particular emphasis on the purpose of the translation, followed by an analysis of the original text, its author and its function. Finally, the translation problems are categorized by the levels of equivalence as stated by Baker, and the strategies used to solve these problems are explained.
