Abstract
This thesis analyzes the relationship between culture, politics, and borders through the example of the Florina region. It aims to combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience in producing an audiovisual work. Utilizing multimodal data collection and processing methods and applying an auto-ethnographic approach, the study examines the social and cultural dynamics of the Florina region, highlighting the uniqueness of border areas and their impact on shaping the border residents' identity.
The practical aspect of the work illustrates the creative process and the application of theoretical concepts in the production of the documentary, showcasing the opportunities this multimodal approach offers for understanding the complexity and multidimensional nature of borders and the cultural identity of the populations residing in them. The dissertation, through the documentary, seeks to reveal how the inhabitants of Florina express and manage their identity through local dances and other cultural practices while analyzing the impact of significant geopolitical developments, such as the incorporation of the region into the Greek state in 1913, various historical events of the 20th century up to the dissolution of Yugoslavia in 1991.
The research reveals the dynamics of borders as spaces of cultural encounter and exchange, as well as their impact on the social and political life of the inhabitants. This thesis constitutes a multidimensional study that attempts to combine academic research with the application of technical knowledge and to reveal the complex relationship between culture, identity, and borders in the modern era.
