Abstract
The emerging field of nanotechnology has offered innovative solutions to various sectors of the food industry, including food processing and quality production, packaging, and long-term storage while simultaneously it has effectively contributed to the improvement of food quality by enhancing its organoleptic characteristics and nutritional value. This thesis presents the categories of nanoparticles applied in the food industry. In addition, it summarizes their potential applications when they are modified, and quality control as well as when new food additives/supplements and other healthier products are produced. Finally, consumer safety concerns, risk assessments, and current legislation and regulatory policies regarding the use of nanotechnology in food are briefly reviewed.
