Abstract
The ability of memory to recall insignificant events that we never chose to be memories of life, as opposed to events that we have deliberately focused our attention on but inevitably fade over time, will be the springboard for the “Digital Recollection” project. This thematic will be reflected in both, the script and the medium (video, photo). Unlike analog world, in the digital world there can be no analogy of recollection. The information chosen to be stored in a digital medium is defined, structured, and can’t change over time, depending only on the digital coding with which they have been created and the physical wear of the medium. Utilizing the glitch technique, we will create a digital analogy of the recollection, giving subjectivity to the medium (video, photo). The theoretical approach is focusing on understanding both memory and its structure. We will study the oblivion, the autobiographical memory, and the impact it has on the creation of identity. We will also go over the relationship between photography and memory. Subsequently we will study the artistic movement of Glitch Art, the methods it follows for creating errors and how it could be the ideal platform for our work. At the end, we will see in detail the implementation of the Digital Recollection project, which belongs to the wider realm of Video Art and Glitch Art.
