Abstract
Figs, the fruits and trees of the Ficus genus, are among the most well-known species all around the world, as in Greece. The fruit and the tree itself, have provided the human kind with a number of useful benefits. Figs are useful as edible fruits for the humans and for the animals as well, but have also been utilized for other purposes in medicine, agriculture and cosmetology.
The aim of this work is to present the current trends of research and applications of the properties of this plant. For this purpose, an extent and thorough study of the relevant literature on Ficus genus, showed the importance of its use in medicine (antioxidant, antimicrobial etc), and its potential use in a plethora of fields.
