Abstract
This thesis is a translation of the first part of the UNESCO report "Global report on culture for sustainable urban development (Urban Future)". This text deals with the promotion of urban cultural heritage as classified into study areas and the techniques for its conservation around the world, as well as the socio-cultural conditions that enable its promotion. It is a multimodal text. The text briefly analyses data on urban cultural heritage, the urban network of sites, factors affecting it and challenges. The translation is accompanied by a commentary, which categorises the translation problems and explains how they were addressed. Translation techniques and theories, such as those of Vinay and Darbelnet, Venuti, Nord, Catford, Benjamin and Newmark, as well as studies by experts on issues related to cultural heritage, have been used for this paper in order to provide accurate terminology.
