Abstract
The present dissertation is a translation from English to Greek and a commentary of an excerpt from the book “The Crown and the Constitution”. It contains the original text of Chapter 4 of the book, its translation, an analysis and commentary of the translational process, and a concise glossary with political terms of the United Kingdom. The excerpt begins with a brief mention of the Crown and anything else it includes. It is clarified that, although the King’s responsibilities are now less and mostly ceremonial, he retains the most important role in the UK Parliament, whereas the other members of Parliament, the House of Lords and House of Commons, are obliged to give an oath of allegiance to his Majesty at the beginning of their political activity. Given that the main focus of the book is the Crown, the excerpt delves into its role inside the Parliament and its responsibilities towards the British political system. Also, it shows the other side of the spectrum, which is the role of the rest constituent parts towards the Crown. The aim of this dissertation is to present the translation of the excerpt, the analysis and commentary of the source text on a semantic, lexical and grammaticallevel, the detection and process of solving the translational difficulties. After the presentation of the above, I end up with some final conclusions.
