Abstract
Not only in Greece but also around the world, sharing economy has caused disturbances in the tourism industry and in the everyday lives of the local residents due to an inadequate protection and management. The Airbnb phenomenon is a prime example if such economy, as it has managed to create a new era in the short-term rental property industry. Multiple studies have shown that many problems have occurred on many well-known tourist destinations over the lack of protection of the areas by public management and development agencies. However, there are few studies that provide analyses on secondary tourist attractions that document the influences of Airbnb short-term rentals in order to form a comprehensive picture of the market.
The following paper focuses on recording the influences of Airbnb shirt-term rentals for the small tourist attractions of Halki, Symi, Tilos and Kastelorizo, which, together with Rhodes, constitute the Regional Unit of Rhodes where there is insufficient research and information available on Airbnb accommodation market for these destinations. Specifically, the influences on the tourism product they offer, i.e. their tourism development, will be recorded.
