Abstract
The main purpose of this project is to analyze the phenomena of racism and diversity as well as to attempt to reverse the dominant perceptions around the subject through the interaction of the art with humans.
In today's times, the phenomena of racism, xenophobia and social exclusion dominate every day. Although these phenomena existed in a variety of different forms in history, in today's society, the complex and sensitive issue of immigration in combination with the economic crisis prevailing in developed nations and the nationalism, have perpetuated the spread of hostility and conservatism.
Art, and particularly the combination of an artistic work with the modern digital technologies, plays an essential role in solving problems. For this reason, an installation is placed in a dark corridor. It interacts with the viewer and aims at his emotion and reflection on the issue of diversity and racism. The artistic work is based on Martin Niemöller's poem "First they came" which is about diversity, solidarity and collectivity combined with the natural and artificial element.
Furthermore, this project analyzes the role of art in combating the phenomena of racism and xenophobia through the reference of similar artworks. Finally a technical and interpretative presentation of the structure and mode of operation of the project takes place as well as the possible effects of the artwork to the viewers.
