Abstract
This thesis presents the design and the implementation of the teaching sessions of a student of the Department of Music Studies of Corfu in the distinct area of Music Education, within the context of his six-month internship, which took place in two classes of a primary school in the prefecture of Northern Evros during the academic year 2023-24. More specifically, from November 2023 to April 2024, the aforementioned student implemented 16 music classes in the 3rd and 17 music classes in the 5th grade of the administrative region of Thrace after silently observing four sessions of the music teacher at the school in these classes. Apart from that, this dissertation demonstrates the experience gained by the student through a series of logs accompanying each teaching session. Following the conclusions drawn from the internship, the whole process has granted the student the opportunity to experientially get to know the teaching classroom, along with the procedure of the design and the implementation of teaching. The design of the lesson plan before each teaching session, based on the principles of the curriculum, constitutes a prerequisite for a successful teaching, especially for those teaching for the first time. In order for teaching to be successful, the teacher ought to be equipped with knowledge and skills and be acquainted with teaching methods and pedagogical theories governing the teaching process. The use of technology and the integration of playful music activities in teaching seem to ensure the overall active engagement of the students involved. Finally, it has been observed that the limited allocated time and space of the typical classroom, compromise any attempts on the music teacher’s part to analyze in depth music concepts and incorporate music-kinetic activities.
