Abstract
This dissertation examines the type of video installations that have been referred to by scholars as cinematic. From a theoretical standpoint, the work explores the relationship between cinema and installations, the means used in cinematic video installations and the reinterpretation of space and time in relation to previous art forms of the moving image. As a case study, Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Primitive installation is examined, as it presents common elements with the implemented Sublunary project which is then analyzed in detail, in terms of its individual elements and means of expression.
