ABSTRACT
The field of translation is a constantly evolving area with the reception and undertaking of more and more texts for translation, which, due to their constant flow, demanding nature and special terminology, call for the recruitment of competent translators, who will be confronted with a huge number of translation challenges and will then be called upon to overcome them with dexterity. There is no doubt that translation is a field of science but also of art, since it is not a simple transfer of messages from the source language to the target language, but rather a process of reconstruction, which involves a liberation from the constraints and rules of the original text and a simultaneous reconciliation with it. Faced with the complexity of the translation industry, it is therefore necessary to provide training for new translators so that they can navigate the “labyrinths” of the world of translation and deal with potential obstacles and dilemmas with competence. Guidance from experienced translators, as well as the opportunity for practical training in the field of translation, is therefore a very important tool for the future career of new translators and equips them appropriately for the challenges they may encounter. My decision to opt for the work placement option is therefore based on my view that by joining the translation workplace I would gain the necessary knowledge and material to broaden my skills in the field of “translating” and gain more confidence before starting my career as a new translator.
