Abstract
Most pieces of performing arts, such as theater and dance, consist of smaller works of art, the ones of their contributors. Scenery, music, script and of course the costumes, compose the play and their quality significantly affects the final result. In this project we are going to engage with the costumes and more specifically with the costume design proposal. After analyzing each garment individually from a theoretical and a practical view, we will examine the notion of whether the whole of a costume design proposal can have, beyond its functional purpose, aesthetic value but also artistic essence. The fact that several sketches have in the present time, already an established value and have secured a position at the exhibition spaces, makes a fine example. Hence the questions raised: Is there an artistic interest lying in the samples produced during the process? What stories can a costume and its drafts tell us? Can a mere moodboard be considered as a work of art? The main object of this research is going to be the digital costume proposal for the short film “Olivebread”, in wich three sirens of Ancient Greece make their appearance. In the context of the postgraduate program "Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Age", the three costumes created and presented in the proposal, are made using three different, unorthodox techniques, directly related to the digital age. In conclusion, the costume proposal itself is presented in audiovisual format.
