Abstract
This thesis refers to the environment of museum education in relation to the elderly audience. The analysis of educational theories is attempted, for the drawing up of educational policy, but also activity in the museum. Also mentioned is museum learning, which emphasizes museum visitors as learners and the way they are taught. In the second chapter, the historical evolution of the term museum from ancient times to the present is determined. Then the role of cultural organizations in modern society is mentioned and the role of the modern museum, its types and good practices are analyzed in order to serve the best possible communication with its visiting public. The concept and characteristics of the participatory museum are mentioned. Then, a general approach to the public of the museum is made and then the targeted public of the elderly is specifically mentioned, which is one of the special groups of public that visit them. In the third chapter, the definition of active aging is given, the various demographic data regarding the aging of the world population and in particular the Greek area are mentioned, the role played by museums is analyzed in order to achieve as much as possible the aging of the elderly in contexts improved and healthier and identified the provided use of new technologies by the museum for the best museum experience. In the fourth chapter, an attempt is made to present various museum actions that are implemented both in Greece and abroad, for the elderly, as well as for those who face mental problems, neuromuscular diseases of immobility, partial or total memory loss, various aesthetic problems, such as hearing or sight • which take place either in the museum area, or take place remotely. In the fifth chapter, the results of the study on the utilization of free time through the education of adults in the third age are presented, in particular for the activities of utilization of free time, the intention, motivations and obstacles to participate in education programs for the elderly, as well as the educational needs of the elderly in general. Then the answers of the respondents to the main questions of the questionnaire are analyzed, using averages and percentages. The research questions of the study are then answered.
