Abstract
This thesis presents the birth, history, rules and characteristics of cricket.
More specifically, it is mentioned about its name, that is, how the name cricket came out, about the 42 rules of the game, about the competent body that decides on the rules of the sport. Also several important names of players who played an important role in the history of cricket are mentioned. There are also incidents that took place over the years and were milestones in the history of cricket. In addition, it is said that English society and public schools having a significant impact on the spread and dissemination of the sport. It also shows how cricket spread rapidly in the colonies, how it developed as a sport, and what changed in its regulations over the years. It is also mentioned the spread of the game on the island of Corfu.
Also interviews conducted in the context of this thesis are presented. Some questions were asked to important people who had a special relationship with cricket in Corfu and the answers given brought to light important facts about cricket and its spread on the island.
Specifically, cricket is mainly a sport where it is an attraction for tourists, but also for the residents of Corfu where they consider it as a kind of entertainment.
