Abstract
After several years of observations by this researcher from her position as a music teacher in a state school, the adolescents’ lack of interest in classroom choral singing has been noted. Many studies have indicated that this problem is common amongst many European countries. The purpose of this study is to examine the reasons for this, by collating and comparing the point of view of the students using their own words, as well as those of other music teachers and a conductor of a children’s’ choir. The object of this study is also to develop ways to engage the adolescents and to encourage enthusiasm in classroom participation, through a variety of methods that can be offered as teaching tools to any teacher who wishes to explore the benefits and the experience of choral singing in his classroom.
