Abstract
Due to the phenomenon of the smartphones dependence, which is not only spreading among the young people, but also, it is extensively used by the older people, the need to create applications was born. As a result of this, our lives became easier and more exciting at all levels. Thus, in the field of culture heritage there are many applications for mobile devices, which are being developed to highlight the cultural heritage of our country. In addition, some of them guide the visitors inside the museum through its facilities and venues during a tour, while others facilitate communication with the museum without being necessary the physical presence of the visitor at the actual venue.
However, the main purpose of the Capstone Project, which is presented below, is to develop and describe a new smartphone application that highlights the archaeological wealth of a city in relation to its museum. It creates cultural routes and displays the exhibits of the city museum at the exact original location which first appeared. In other words, an attempt is made to interconnect the historical center of the city with its archaeological findings, which are now exhibited in its archaeological museum.
Concluding, there is a brief reference of applications of similar content as well as tasks that have dealt with mobile applications. Subsequently, a detailed description follows regarding the application and the reasons of its development. At the end, the application is evaluated by survey participants using a questionnaire, followed by the results, which show the acceptance of the application by the majority of the survey participants.
Initially, there is a brief reference of applications of similar content as well as tasks that have dealt with mobile applications. Subsequently, a detailed description follows regarding the application and the reasons of its development. In addition, the application consists of two basic options. The first creates cultural routes between two central points of the city, while the second one informs the user about what exists around him. Moreover, these two functions refer to findings which have been discovered by excavations at these locations, and now they are being exhibited at the city's archaeological museum.
Finally, the application is evaluated using a questionnaire by research participants, without considering their age and interests. At the end, the results from the questionnaire showed the acceptance of the application by the majority of the participants, taking into consideration the positive feedback, which was mainly about its usefulness and usability. Concluding, on a positive note, most of them said that they would recommend the application to other users.
