Abstract
The main purpose of this dissertation is becoming more familiar with translation and get in touch with business from a theoretical point of view. Due to the specific extent that a dissertation must have according to the regulations given by the department, I chose to work on the second chapter, entitled “Literature Review”, of the study “How can leaders manage multicultural employees within UK businesses?” The dissertation consists of three (3) main parts which are: the original text, the translation and its commentary. More specifically, the second chapter looked into the studies of Geert Hofstede, Richard Lewis and Robert House which all have contributed so much into the understanding of the cultures, behavior and leadership. Their global research has been vital for this study and has contributed to the understanding of how cultures and societies behave and react under different situations. The main conclusion from this chapter is that all cultures are so different from one another, yet in the end if one’s culture is understood, the working process will be very easy. Furthermore, a small sample of the UK and the Greek leadership style was presented. The translation and the textual analysis of this chapter made me understand even better the relationship between culture and business.
