Abstract
Science fiction may be less popular than its close relative, fantasy literature, among Greek readers, but it is nevertheless quite ubiquitous. Unfortunately, this is not the case when it comes to its intersections with feminist literature. That is where the Greek translation of Nicola Griffith’s novel Ammonite comes into play, seeking to highlight the challenges of translating technical and cultural terminology, along with linguistically encoded gender expectations, in the context of a transition from a gender-neutral -for the most part- language, such as English, to a language with unsparing morphological shackles. The ultimate goal of this endeavour is to bridge the gap between the academic analysis and examination of the translation process, and the practical reality of the production of a translated text aimed at a gender-aware, but not exclusively, readership.
