Abstract
Intercultural Communication is an ever-increasingly significant aspect of modern life. It is harmonically connected to language and the way people interact with one another. At the same time, this century is considered the synonym to change of everything people knew as their reality. On these grounds, countless people decide to leave their countries and begin a new life. A great amount of them are refugees and asylum seekers who due to various reasons abandon their homeland and immigrate to Europe. As a result, the need for humanitarian assistance is ever growing. The aim of this dissertation is to present how intercultural communication competence is present in every aspect of modern life and also how it is connected to humanitarian assistance through the comparison of three European countries which accept refugees on a daily basis, Greece, Spain and Denmark. Furthermore, it tries to draw comparisons between the local people and the way each state deals with refugee flows. By interviewing representatives of the aforementioned countries, an interesting presentation of the issue is given. These countries were chosen to provide an example of what is done right and what is done wrong regarding the integration of refugees and asylum seekers. Humanitarian assistance and by extension the universal human rights are more crucial than ever before.
