This research delves into the musical career of Francisco Tárrega, the most important Spanish composer of the Romantic period and a key figure in the field of classical guitar. Focusing on three of his most iconic compositions - Recuerdos de la Alhambra, Adelita and Danza Mora - we examine the characteristics of Tárrega's musical innovation and his influence on the establishment of the classical guitar as a solo instrument. At first, a brief reference is made to the possible origins of the guitar in early ancient cultures. There is also a historical retrospection back to the late Middle Ages, when the more sophisticated forms of stringed instruments that were precursors to the classical guitar appeared. The significance of the birth of the modern guitar is then explored, focusing on 19th century Spain and its interaction with flamenco. This is followed by an analysis of Tárrega's life and his influences, and the final chapter provides an in-depth analysis of his three selected works. Through this exploration, Tárrega's profound impact on the development of the classical guitar and its emergence as a solo instrument becomes apparent. Ultimately, the paper highlights Tárrega's importance in classical music and his unique contribution to the cultural and artistic landscape of his time, as well as to contemporary musical expression.
