Abstract
The present dissertation consists of the subtitling into English of fifteen minutes of episode 25 of season 4 from the Greek comedy series "To soi sou" and a commentary on the process of the subtitling. The process of translation of the audiovisual material is analysed and the translation problems and the strategies used for addressing them are discussed. Subtitling was chosen because of its specific nature; Firstly, in the audiovisual text the source text and the target text coexist, furthermore, the translator has to transfer the meaning from the spoken word to the written word by changing the communication 'channel' and finally, sometimes there are also stimuli from the image that have to be taken into account in the translation.
