Abstract
This paper deals with the processing and study of notaries
Acts from the Notary Protocol of Emmanuel Toxotis, Constantine
Monastriotis and Antonio Spyris, notaries of the 16th century.
All notarial acts under consideration were created under the private
law. They are notarial documents and concern buying and selling, donations and
dowry agreements. Through these actions of Emmanuel Toxotis, Konstantinos
Monastriotis and Antonio Spyris one can understand its importance
notary work to understand the history of a place. Actions are outlined
the social and economic life of the people in Corfu in the 16th century. The 16th
a century was an important period for Corfu, which was under Venice
sovereignty. The notaries were divided into notaries of the city and its notaries
outdoors. The former used Greek and Italian in
compilation of the notarial acts, while the latter only the Greek language.
For each notarial deed to be valid it had to be signed by two
persons present during the drafting of the act, the witnesses, and by its author
act, the notary.
