Abstract
Greece is a country with a unique historical and cultural heritage and at the same time
it has an important biodiversity. Important conditions for the development of
Sustainable Tourism that highlights the aesthetic and cultural value of an area.
The present work is about the design of a mixed cultural route for the Acorn Forest of
Xeromeros in the prefecture of Aitoloakarnania. More specifically, the main
characteristics that define the identity of the study area, its natural and cultural
resources, its tourist profile through SWOT analysis and the design of the cultural
route are recorded. In addition to the creation of a website for the promotion of the
route and the area in general, the creation of an application for smartphones (smart
mobiles phones) and tablets (tablet computers) is proposed, where visitors will have
the opportunity to implement the route in a playful and informative way. The aim is to
explore the potential for tourism development in the Velanidodadosos of Xeromeros,
an area of great interest because it has a variety of elements of tangible and intangible
cultural heritage and a rich natural environment, and to acquire a tourist identity
(brand name) in the context of sustainable development. More specifically, however,
it aims to attract visitors, create the right conditions for new investment and
strengthen the local economy by creating new opportunities for businesses and
producers.
The promotion of cultural tourism is the key to the development of cultural routes in
remote areas, which are distinguished by their authenticity and uniqueness.
