Abstract
The present work constitutes the Bachelor's Thesis of Despoina Triantafyllou, an undergraduate student of the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation, and Interpreting at the Ionian University. The original text for translation addresses and analytically examines the law on gender equality between men and women in the federal administration and courts of Germany (Bundesgleichstellungsgesetz). This effort took place in April 2015, with the primary aim of improving the working conditions of women, particularly in terms of pay and their treatment in positions with supervisory and administrative duties. This equality plan aims to significantly increase the percentage of women in leadership positions, eliminate unfavorable conditions due to gender, and ultimately achieve compatibility with family life. These reforms and regulations aim to achieve a balanced representation of men and women in federal authorities. However, as we will see in the analysis of translation difficulties below, this was not initially feasible. The choice of the topic was based on the perennial nature of the issue that has concerned the world throughout the centuries. Through this work, various cultural and factual differences, as well as different approaches to the female gender, are highlighted between the two countries. Below, you will find the translation of the original text, the original text itself, and the commentary on the translation.
