Abstract
This study was carried out in the context of a thesis on "The IIIF Protocol and the Making Available of Digital Documents" and includes the presentation of the International Interoperability Framework for Images in order to understand its functions, to investigate the degree of its usability, as well as the possibilities it offers. The advantages of the IIIF protocol in the viewing of digital collections are presented and the application programming interfaces (APIs) it uses are mentioned, as the two most important of them will be further analysed. An example of presenting a digital resource (a digital image depicting an inscription) using IIIF is also presented, and its results are analysed. The aim of this work is to draw conclusions on whether the International Image Interoperability Framework offers truly advanced capabilities, is easy to use and can provide significant assistance in terms of operation and use as well as in terms of organisation and documentation of digital collections, both for organisations and endusers
