Abstract
The main purpose of this dissertation is to develop a system for the detection of the red
palm weevil in palm trees. First, the importance of palm trees in Greece is presented and the
life cycle of the beetle is analyzed. Next, there is a reference about the sensors and also about
the Raspberry Pi. Then, the code developed to achieve this goal is analyzed and reference is
made to the installation of the system. Finally, the results that emerged during the data
collection are presented as well as the problems and the conclusions that emerged.
